Companion Family
Companion dogs were adapted and
bred for a very special purpose of being a
companion. With the exception of the Dalmatian and
the English Bulldog, their small size and stature
lends them to be a house pet, and for ease in
carrying, fitting into limited space. These are, in
essence, a "miniaturization" of their ancestors. Let
it be remembered that the size is no reflection of
their importance and their function. Many of the
licensed Therapy Dogs are from this Group. Many of
these breeds are those which were used for
entertainment, such as trick dogs in traveling
circuses and carnivals. Dogs in this family
