  The Sussex Spaniel is a viable working dog. It can become quite vocal when trailing game, and experienced hunters can determine the quarry by the Sussex's vocal clues. The Sussex Spaniel has a rich, liver-colored coat, but due to the coat's dark, dense texture, this is not a suitable breed for hot, humid climates.
