Quick Facts

Family: Terrier
Region of Origin: Australia
Originally used for companion, small vermin hunting
Also known as Sydney Silky, Australian Silky Terrier
Height: 9-10"
Life Span: 11-14 years
Color: blue and tan
Weight: 8-11 lbs
The Silky Terrier is similar in appearance, but larger than, the Yorkshire Terrier. It is a robust breed, yappy like the Yorkshire Terrier, and just as possessive of its own territory, announcing the presence of strangers in a shrill voice. Although small in size, it is quire capable of killing rodents. It can become an independent renegade, and early obedience training is advisable if it is to live peacefully with people. The Silky's coat benefits from daily brushing to prevent matting.
