The Affenpinscher is a terrier-like toy breed of dog. Weighing 7 to 8 pounds (3-4 kg) and not exceeding 11 inches (26-27 cm) in height at the withers, it has bushy eyebrows, shaggy hair, and a monkey-like appearance. The coat is medium long and is harsh and wiry in texture. Colors are black by preference, with black and tan, red, and dark grey also acceptable.

The breed is European in origin and dates back to the seventeenth century. Its name is derived from the German affe ("ape", "monkey") and pinscher ("terrier"). The breed predates and is ancestral to the Griffon Bruxellois (Brussels Griffon) and Belgian Griffon.
